"Kia tiaki koe i te tangata – Nurture and care for our people."
As we approach the last few weeks of the school year, this quote serves as a reminder of the importance of looking after one another. Here at Kio Kio School, we’ve seen the strength of our community as students, parents, and staff have all come together to support each other with kindness, compassion, and respect. Let’s continue to nurture and care for one another as we finish the year strong, knowing that a caring community is one that thrives.

Athletics Wrap-Up
What an afternoon we had! After a rainy start to our sprint races, we postponed the event to the following week—and it was definitely worth the wait. The competition was fierce, and our students gave it their all, racing with impressive speed and determination right up to the 80m or 50m finish line. Congratulations to all the participants, especially the place getters, who showed great sportsmanship and skill.

A standout moment of the day was the Parent vs. Year 7 & 8 Race. After a bit of rearranging the parents, we finally got the race underway. I’d love to say it was a close race, but with a baton-change mishap and the sheer speed of our AMAZING student runners, the parent team didn’t stand a chance! But don’t worry, parents—next year, I’m sure you’ll come back stronger and ready to reclaim the title!
It was such a fantastic way to cap off the day. A huge thank you to the parents who were brave enough to race alongside our students—this will definitely be a memory they’ll treasure for a very long time!
Swimming Lessons
Our school pool is being prepped and is taking shape, ready for our students to begin the classroom aquatics programme for the remainder of the term. Swimming is a vital life skill, and we are fortunate to offer this as part of the curriculum. Please ensure your child brings their togs and towel to school each day. If your child is unable to swim for any reason, please provide their teacher with a note of explanation. We plan to begin swimming lessons next week, once the pool water has been tested. Teachers will notify you when their classroom lessons will begin.

Cricket Sessions
Over the coming weeks, a Northern Districts Cricket educator will be visiting Kio Kio School to run cricket skill sessions for each class. Students will have the opportunity to develop their catching, passing, bowling, and batting skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for all our budding cricketers!

Kapahaka Teacher
Finally, we are still looking for a Kapahaka teacher to work with us one day per week. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please get in touch with me.
