Learners with special needs and abilities
Learning Support
We work hard to ensure that students with special learning needs are appropriately catered for. Support programmes are planned, monitored and reviewed collaboratively by teachers, visiting experts and parents/whanau.
Programmes may be in-class or individualised ‘out-of-class’ programmes. Examples include Reading Discovery (known as Reading Recovery in many schools), Maths Discovery, Lexia, Toe by Toe, Progress in Learning, and our targeted learning programmes for students who are not achieving or are at risk of not achieving, in literacy and numeracy.

Enrichment
A variety of extension and enrichment opportunities are offered at Kio Kio School. In 2016 we have a professional learning focus on this aspect of our programmes.
Programmes may be in-class, small group or individualised according to student need and interest. Examples include Robotics, Lego Club, Photography, leadership opportunities including event management training, sports and Citizen Scientists.
